Professional Experience
2003 - 2006 MY Laurel
- Reporting to the Owner, I was based at the shipyard and represented their interests
in all matters regarding the construction and financing of the yacht.
- My duties include attending the yacht to verify the construction in accordance with
the specification and hence authorise funds.
- Attended Architectural meetings monthly to provide technical input.
- Responsible for the coordination of all Owners Furnished Equipment (Bridge Navigation
Equipment, Audio Visual, Security, Computer, Fitness, Tools, Tenders and Hotel items etc.).
- Liaised with Class and Flag state to achieve compliance with maximum benefit to the Owner.
2003 Academy Engineering
- Various plan approval and site visits including 92m private luxury steel/steel yacht and 62m
luxury steel/aluminium yacht as freelance inspector for quality and scheduling.
2002 MY Zenobia
- As Owners site representative, I was responsible to verify all technical items on the vessel.
Attended the vessel daily verifying structure, insulation, fairing and paint, safety items,
exterior and interior furniture, piping etc.
- Attended the bi-monthly architectural meeting for technical aspects and chaired the weekly site
meeting with yard management.
1999 - 2001 P&O North Sea Ferries.
- Plan approval at TQMS, London for design appraisal of many vessels on behalf of miscellaneous Owners.
- On site supervision for two Ro-Pax ships the "Pride of Rotterdam"
and "Pride of Hull" (60,600 GRT) at Fincantieri, Italy inspecting
on behalf of the owner, P&O North Sea Ferries.
- Lead Inspector responsible for a team of seven covering hull and outfit disciplines. Final inspections include architectural aspects of cabins, crew and public areas. Other responsibilities included catering and laundry equipment, lifts, cargo handling ramps/doors and statutory items, office computer systems and databases.
1998 - August 1999 Disney Cruise Line.
- Contracted as Hull and Outfit Inspector on the passenger ship
"Disney Wonder" (83,000 GRT) carrying out inspections on behalf
of the owner, Disney Cruise Line.
- Inspected structural steel, piping, outfit and insulation for owner approval. Inspected spaces prior to panelling in public areas, back of house and crew areas for all disciplines.
- Led a team of twelve engaged in final technical commissioning of all 1387 cabins on the vessel.
- Additional inspections included fire doors/frames, splash doors, watertight doors, galley equipment and piping along with sea trials and docking of the vessel.
1995 - 1998 Lloyds Register
- Carried out class and statutory surveys, sea trials and docking for the completion and delivery of
"Disney Magic" (83,000 GRT)
- London Fire Group for plan appraisal and type approval certification.
Attended fire training exercise by Kent F.B. aboard
"Stena Emporer"
cross channel passenger ferry.
- Hull inspection for
"Dawn Princess" (82,000 GRT)
and "Grand Princess" (109,000 GRT).
Passenger Ship certification surveys for completion and delivery of
"Carnival Destiny" (101,000 GRT).
1991 - 1995 Lloyds Register, London.
- Appraised all types of vessels for compliance with intact, grain loading and damage stability
requirements of National and International Codes and Conventions.
- Planned development for stability computer software.
- Temporary duty in Pusan Plan Approval Centre, Korea.
1988 - 1991 Naval Architecture Design Office, Harland & Wolff.
- Worked on the design of a wide range of ship types producing preliminary G.A.s, Contract
Specifications, Capacity Plans etc., Stability Books, Inclining Expts. and outline specifications.
- Using NAPA and Steerbear software extensively produced computer product models hull surface
definition for manufacturing information. Participated in software development in Finland.
- Worked in post-contract design i.e.: weight control, inclining experiments and Stability
Books for completed ships including an oil recovery vessel, bulk carrier and an aviation training
ship conversion.
