  • Obtained A levels at Belfast Royal Academy.
  • Attained a Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree from the University of Ulster, while sponsored by Harland & Wolff Shipbuilders, Belfast.
  • Joined Lloyd's Register. Gained Chartered Engineer status and worked as Surveyor in Statutory Group, London and on Passenger vessels in the field.
  • Became an Owners Representative for Disney Cruise Line, completing a one-year contract for inspection of hull and outfit disciplines.
  • In 1999 formed Academy Engineering and contracted to Three Quays Marine Services for plan approval activities from the Owners perspective for several new building passenger vessels.
  • Contracted to P&O as Owners Rep for two Passenger ferry new buildings. Led a team of up to seven multinational inspectors to verify structural, coatings, insulation, outfit, HVAC, cargo handling and all hotel aspects for the two ships.
  • Oversaw the construction of a new 60m Luxury Motor Yacht, built to MCA Code and LR SSC Rules at Abeking & Rasmussen, Germany.
  • Freelance work in the construction of luxury yachts with design appraisal and visits to several yards and yachts (54m, 63m, 72m and 92m) on behalf of Owners for technical and Flag aspects.
  • Became Owners representative for the largest private yacht (73m/240’) to be built in the United States in 75 years. Steel/composite construction built to LR SSC, MCA and Cayman flagged.
